Nowadays one of the most accurate measurement methods is optical measurement techniques. Optical measurements are applied for a wide variety of applications such as combustion, automobile, aerodynamics, sprays, fluid mechanics, mixing and heat flow, imaging of industrial processes, and so on.

Optical measurement techniques have various advantages include non-invasive, non-contact, non-intrusive, and fast. Therefore, using these techniques is so popular in recent years. In this regards, the “Optical Diagnostics and Imaging Laboratory” of Amirkabir University of Technology has been established. There are various experimental facilities to conduct different research experiments in the this laboratory.

In order to advance research in these areas, wide variety of visualizing techniques such as: Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV), Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF), Interferometry, Deflectometry, Spectroscopy, Schlieren, Shadowgraphy, and so on are applied to measure the physical quantities.
