Electromagnetic radiation including light is made up of different electromagnetic spectra. Spectroscopy splits the electromagnetic radiation into its spectra (component wavelengths) to investigate interaction of electromagnetic radiation and matter. The operation of the prism which splits the white light to the rainbow, is similar.
